New Hampshire takes quick lead to top Bulldogs

DURHAM, N.H. – After a successful weekend last week, the Bryant University field hockey team fell to New Hampshire, 6-0, on Friday afternoon.

Coach de Vries' Comments

"It comes down to trusting yourself and trusting what we have been practicing. We started off okay, but then let in a soft goal and just broke, which is unacceptable at this level. We are going to forget the first half and use the second half as something to build on for Sunday. We just have to fix some individual mindsets and turn them into the team mindset, and if we do that then Sunday will be a whole different ball game."

Key Moment

• After just five minutes of play, the Wildcats threw the first punch as Bloe van den Berkel took a highflying shot that Finn Caron was able to redirect into the goal. The Bulldogs were never able to recover as an outcome of the first goal.

• 5' – New Hampshire 1, Bryant 0 – New Hampshire's van den Brekel took a high shot that was going wide. Caron redirected the ball and tapped it into the goal.
• 18' – New Hampshire 2, Bryant 0 – Off of a penalty corner, the New Hampshire native Emily Perryman (Lebanon, N.H.) blocked the shot but couldn't maintain possession. The Wildcats got the ball back and van den Brekel shot the ball from the top left side of the circle as the ball rolled past the Bulldog defense and into the goal.
• 28' New Hampshire 3, Bryant 0 – During another Wildcat corner, Erin McNamara passed the ball to Bailey Fanikos who was able to find the back of the net for the Wildcats.
• 33' – New Hampshire 4, Bryant 0 – Brittany Gouws (Cape Town, South Africa) was able to clear the ball out of the circle, but the Wildcats were quick to the ball and regained possession. Rachel Bossi fired the ball from the middle of the circle, which hit off Marijn Jaarsma's (Uithoorn, Netherlands) legs and into the goal.
• 39' – New Hampshire 5, Bryant 0 – The Wildcats attempted to score but Jaarsma blocked the shot and redirected the ball into the middle of the circle. Fanikos got the rebound and put the ball away for her second goal of the game.
• 66' – New Hampshire 6, Bryant 0 – During New Hampshire's 13^th penalty corner, Katie Audino played the ball into Tori Palumbo who set up Nicky Bajus for the shot. Bajus shot a laser from the top of the circle for the final goal of the game.   

Stats/Notes

• Freshman Eva Bazen (The Hague, Netherlands) led the Bulldogs by putting two shots on frame. Kylie Nelson (Searsmont, Maine) also put a shot on goal as the Bulldogs tallied a total of three for the game.
• Jaarsma saved eight shots in the first half before being replaced by Lyndsay Swanston (Burlington, Ont.) at the beginning of the second half. Swanston compiled three saves on the day.
• New Hampshire led the Bulldogs in shots by shooting 24 and putting 17 of them on frame. The Wildcats also took ten more penalty corners than the Bulldogs as they took a total of 14, compared to Bryant's four.
