Jaarsma earns NEC Defensive Player of the Week honors
SOMERSET, N.J. – Sophomore goalkeeper Marijn Jaarsma (Uithoorn, Netherlands) from the Bryant University field hockey team earned this week's Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week laurels, as announced Tuesday by the conference office.
Jaarsma helped the Bulldogs go 1-1 on the weekend as the team picked up its first conference win on Sunday over Wagner. The 4-0 victory marked Jaarsma's first shutout of the season, fourth of her career. On Sunday, Jaarsma tallied three saves during 53 minutes in the cage before being relieved by teammate Lyndsay Swanston (Burlington, Ont.) in the fourth quarter.
The sophomore also kept No. 23 Fairfield off the board for three of the four quarters on Friday. Bryant fell, 2-1, as Jaarsma stopped four between the posts.
Bryant is back in action this Friday, Oct. 18 at Sacred Heart for a 7 p.m. conference match.
