Bulldogs rally back, fall in OT to Sacred Heart

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Bryant University field hockey team rallied from a 3-0 deficit but Sacred Heart was able to emerge victorious in overtime, 4-3, on Friday night at Johnson Field on the campus of Yale University. 

Brittany Gouws, Ashley Barron and Carson Dennis all scored for the Bulldogs. Dennis' third goal of the season tied the game with 10 minutes remaining.

KEY MOMENT

  • Sacred Heart's leading scorer Isabell Chamberlain was able to end the game in overtime, scoring off a rebound.         

SCORING SUMMARY

  • Q1 2:49 - Sacred Heart grabbed a quick lead as Julia Change scored within the first three minutes.
  • Q1 4:40 - The Pioneers made it two goals in the first five minutes as Mia Katterman scored off a rebound.
  • Q2 23:37 - Kayla Kruk was able to take advantage of another rebound, putting the Pioneers up 3-0.
  • Q2 29:57 - Gouws got Bryant on the board, converting a stroke. She slotted the shot to the lower right corner of the cage.
  • Q3 33:18 - Bryant took an aggressive restart just outside the circle. The ball was fired in and deflected on net and Barron was able to collect the rebound and calmly flick it home.
  • Q4 50:00 - Taryn Rauff fired a shot towards cage that Dennis tipped at first. She then poked the loose ball through the pads of the keeper to tie the game.
  • OT 60:37 - Chamberlain ended the game, scoring off a rebound in overtime.
