Guitink, Clarke lift Bryant past Merrimack

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Lotte Guitink finished with three points and Olivia Clarke scored the game-winning goal with just over nine minutes left as the Bryant University field hockey team earned a 2-1 victory over Merrimack on Tuesday afternoon at the Track & Turf Complex.

KEY MOMENT

  • Clarke deflected a shot from Guitink to give Bryant a 2-1 lead with 9:09 left in the fourth quarter.           

HOW IT HAPPENED

Merrimack opened the scoring on Tuesday as Abby Allen scored with just five seconds left in the first quarter. 

Bryant had chances to tie the game but was unable to break through until the fourth quarter. Natalie Griffin inserted the penalty corner and Guitink's shot from the top of the circle found its way past the goalie. Just under five minutes later, Griffin once again inserted to Guitink. This time, Clarke was able to deflect Guitink's shot into the back of the cage.   

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Guitink recorded her first points of the season. The three points are a career high. 
  • Clarke scored her second goal of the season and her first-career game-winning goal. 
  • Dieneke Hes posted a pair of saves to earn his first-career victory.
