Bryant rallies past Holy Cross on Sunday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Olivia Clarke scored a pair of goals to highlight an explosive second half as the Bryant University field hockey team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to earn a 4-3 victory over Holy Cross on Sunday afternoon at Providence College. 

The Bulldogs trailed 2-0 at halftime but scored four times in the second half, with Clarke notching the game-winning goal in the with just over 10 minutes to go.

KEY MOMENT

  • Trailing 3-2, Lotte Guitink tied the game and Clarke scored five minutes later to give the Black and Gold a 4-3 lead.           

HOW IT HAPPENED

Holy Cross built a 2-0 first half lead with goals two minutes apart late in the first quarter. 

Brittany Gouws got Bryant on the board five minutes into the second half on an assist from Natalie Griffin. Clarke scored her first goal of the game just over a minute later on an assist from Sarah van Scoten, tying the game at 2-2. 

The Crusaders regained the lead in the 43rd minute but Guitink scored two minutes later to tie the game at 3-3. Clarke gave Bryant a 4-3 edge less than five minutes later on an assist from Taryn Rauff

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Bryant snapped a four-game losing streak to the Crusaders. 
  • Clarke recorded the first multi-goal game of her career. She now leads the Bulldogs with four goals on the season. 
  • Clarke finished with three goals, including two game-winning goals, during Bryant's three-game week. 
  • Guitink notched her second goal of the week and finished the week with six points (2g, 2a). 
  • Bryant scored 4+ goals for just the fourth time in the last six years. 
  • The Black and Gold have scored 11 goals through the first six games, the most since it scored 12 in the first six games of 2015.
