Bryant upended at Hofstra on Sunday

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Bryant University field hockey team lost a heartbreaker on Sunday, falling to Hofstra 3-2.

Bryant tied the game with 11 seconds remaining but the Pride were able to convert on a quick restart, scoring with two seconds left.

KEY MOMENT

  • After the Bulldogs tied the game, Hofstra sent an aerial into the circle and it was deflected home with just two seconds left.              

HOW IT HAPPENED

Hofstra opened the scoring with a goal late in the first half, taking a 1-0 lead to the break. 

The Bulldogs were able to tie the game with just over 10 minutes to go in the game. Olivia Clarke was able to find the back of the net off a feed from Brittany Gouws

The Pride answered three minutes later to take a 2-1 lead.  

Bryant kept pressing, drawing a stroke with 11 seconds to go. Brittany Gouws was able to bury the chance, tying the game. 

Hofstra, however, sent the ball into the circle on the restart and it was deflected home with two seconds to go.

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Clarke notched her fifth goal of the season and now has five goals and two assists for 12 points. 
  • Gouws converted a stroke for her team-leading seventh goal of the year. With her assist, she now has 18 points (7g, 4a). 
  • Dieneke Hes posted eight saves.
