Bryant challenges No. 21 Maine on Friday

PROVIDENCE – The Bryant University field hockey team pushed No. 21 Maine to the limit on Friday afternoon, eventually falling 6-3.

KEY MOMENT

  • Bryant cut the deficit to 4-3 but the Black Bears scored just 34 seconds later to take a 5-3 lead.               

HOW IT HAPPENED

Maine jumped out quickly on Friday, scoring twice in the first six minutes of the game. 

The Bulldogs, responded, though, tying the game with a pair of goals. Lotte Guitink scored her sixth of the season following a penalty corner late in the first quarter. Taryn Rauff then found Caitlin Gallagher for her first career goal just over three minutes into the second quarter to tie the score. 

Maine, however, was able to take a 3-2 lead into the half, scoring with 3:30 left in the half. 

The Black Bears pushed it to 4-2 but Rauff was able to make it a one-goal game, finishing a pass from Ella Davison for her second of the game. 

Maine answered 34 seconds later and then added a sixth to close the door. 

BULLDOGS NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • Rauff scored her third goal of the season and added an assist. 
  • Gallagher recorded her first career goal. 
  • Guitink scored her sixth goal of the year. 
  • Davison picked up her first assist of the season.
