Bulldogs complete signing class, welcome 10

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant University field hockey head coach Jillian Coppola announced the addition of 10 student-athletes for the upcoming Fall 2023 season. 

Coppola is excited to welcome Julie Diderich, Jenny Sorrentino, Callie Caito, Gabrielle Dwyer, Carly Dimock, Alexa Sedicino, Halley Beaudoin, Emma Rothkopf, Claire Joss and Natalie Brown. Rothkopf and Brown will be graduate students, while the other eight will be true freshmen.

  • Will join the Bulldogs as a true freshman from Fairfax, Virginia.
  • Will graduate from Fairfax High.
  • Posted 50 goals in her high school career.
  • Named Patriot District Player of the Year in 2022.
  • First Team All-State selection in 2021. 
  • Named to USA Today HSSA National Player of the Year watchlist.
  • Played club for HUSEL Hockey Club.
  • NFHCA Academic Honor Roll.
  • "Field hockey has always been a huge part of my life because I have a strong family history with it. My mom, aunt, cousins, sister and I all play. It brings me a sort of pride to continue with the family legacy."

Coach Coppola: "Halley possesses the ball with speed and strength. She's a fearless defender with incredible ball speed."

  • Will join the Bulldogs as a graduate student from the University of Connecticut.
  • Grew up in Stow, Mass., and graduated from Nashoba Regional.
  • Spent the 2019, spring '21, fall '21 and 2022 seasons on the UConn roster.
  • Appeared in 23 career games for the Huskies, registering one assist.
  • Was a 2018 NFHCA Second Team High School All-American.
  • Named the 2018 Worcester Telegram and Gazette Player of the Year.
  • Competed in the 2014, '15 and '16 USA Field Hockey National Futures Championships.

Coach Coppola: "In addition to her technical abilities, Natalie brings versatility to the front six. She's a knowledgable and disciplined athlete with competitive experiences that will help elevate our group."

  • Will join the Bulldogs as a true freshman from Whitinsville, Mass.
  • Will graduate from La Salle Academy in Providence, R.I.
  • Joins her older brother Thomas at Bryant. He's a member of the men's lacrosse team.
  • Played four seasons of varsity field hockey at La Salle.
  • Scored 49 goals during her career.
  • Three-time All-State selection, leading her team in scoring all three years.
  • Nominated for player of the year each of her last three seasons.
  • Played club field hockey for Allegiance Field Hockey.
  • Earned first honors in each of her four seasons.
  • "When I am on the field I am happy and I love the competitiveness of the game. I love how intense it gets and the excitement of scoring."

Coach Coppola: "Callie is a creative attack with natural scoring ability in the goal mouth and has an excellent shot."

Coach Coppola: "Julie is a well-rounded hockey player, bringing experience on both sides of the ball. Her understanding of the game and ability to consistently intercept and counter attack makes her special."

  • Played in the National Futures Championship Games in 2018 and 2019.
  • Played club for Cape Cod Field Hockey.
  • National Honors Society member.
  • "Field Hockey allows me to create connections and relationships that will last a lifetime. I am so lucky for so many amazing opportunities given to me due to field hockey."

Coach Coppola: "Carly is a fast forward with smooth hand skills and the ability to shoot off both sides of her body."

  • Will graduate from Grafton High.
  • Recorded seven goals and six assists as a senior.
  • Named an SWCL First Team All-Star and selected for the 2022 MSFHCA Best of 60 Senior All-Star Game.
  • Played club for Cape Ann Field Hockey.
  • USA Field Hockey National Indoor Championship Tournament U19 Girls Pool L Champions.
  • National Honor Society member. 
  • "I love being able to step out on the field and perform skills that I love to do. I enjoy the team atmosphere and I love to compete."

Coach Coppola: "Brie is a calm defender whose passion and excitement for the game are a perfect fit for our culture."

  • Will join the Bulldogs as a true freshman from Dundee, Scotland. 
  • Started all three years in high school, starting every game each of her final two years.
  • Selected for the Scottish Midland District U16 and U18 squads.
  • Captained her club team during the 2022-23 season. 
  • Named the U18 Indoor Player of the Year in 2020-21 and 2021-22.
  • Both her parents played field hockey at the University of Dundee and for the Scottish Universities Team.
  • Her uncle Keith was the coach of the Scottish Women's National Team.
  • "I love being a part of a team while playing a game that always challenges me to improve as an athlete and an individual."

Coach Coppola: "Claire is a composed and calm defender with strong outletting skills. Her playing background and exceptional tactical knowledge will complement our returning group of defenders well."

  • Will join the Bulldogs as a transfer from Brown University.
  • Grew up in Wilton, Conn., and graduated from Wilton High.
  • Played the 2019, 2021 and 2022 seasons with Brown.
  • Appeared in 51 career games, making 42 starts at Brown.
  • Recorded three goals, five assists and 11 points in her career. 
  • Selected NFHCA All-Region as a senior and was named All-State First Team, All-State Academic, All-FCIAC First Team, CIAC Scholar-Athlete and FCIAC Exceptional Scholar-Athlete.

Coach Coppola: "Emma is a smart attacker and methodical presser in the front 25. Her versatility in set pieces will be huge for us and she is a determined and selfless athlete."

  • Named MVP of Section IX as a senior in 2022.

  • Earned scholar-athlete honors all four years.
  • "In fifth grade I started playing competitively and since then field hockey has been my escape and brought me so much joy."

Coach Coppola: "Jenny has great vision and speed, and plays with courage and determination."

  • Will graduate from West Essex.
  • Plays club field hockey for NJ Grit.
  • Competed in the NFHCA Winter Escape and Disney Sunshine Showcase in 2022.
