Bryant downs Stonehill, 4-2, on Friday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Brittany Gouws scored a pair of goals and finished with five points to lead the Bryant University field hockey team to a 4-2 victory over Stonehill on Friday afternoon.

Emma Rothkopf and Natalie Brown each scored their first goals as Bulldogs, while Natalie Griffin and Julie Diderich added a pair of assists.

  • Rothkopf and Gouws scored four minutes apart in the second quarter to give Bryant a 2-0 lead.     

How it Happened

  • After a scoreless first quarter, Rothkopf and Gouws gave Bryant a 2-0 lead with goals four minutes apart. 
  • Rothkopf took a perfect pass from Natalie Griffin and buried into the back of the cage.
  • Four minutes later, Rothkopf stopped the penalty corner and Gouws ripped it home.
  • Gouws then made it 3-0 in the third quarter as she redirected a shot from Taryn Rauff off the cross bar and in.
  • The Skyhawks made it 3-2 with a pair of goals from Raegan Hickey.
  • Brown capped the scoring as she was able to finish in an open net with just over a minute left.

Bryant Notes and Notables

  • Bryant has now won each of the two Division I meetings between the programs.
  • The Bulldogs have won four of their first seven games for the first time since 2013 (team started 7-1). 
  • Gouws recorded five points (2g, 1a) and now leads the team with 11 points. 
  • Gouws has 42 career points, tied for the third-most in DI program history and the seventh-most all-time.
  • Rothkopf recorded her first three points as a Bulldog, scoring a goal and adding an assist.
  • Diderich recorded her first two career points with assists.
  • Brown notched her first goal as a Bulldog and her first collegiate goal. 
  • Griffin finished with two assists and now has a goal and two assists in the last two games.
  • Rauff picked up an assist and now has 38 career points. 
  • Colby Lavoie posted one save to earn her first collegiate victory in goal.
