Men's Hoops Rolls Past Owls 82-55

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – John Williams (Springfield, Mass.) scored 21 points while Mike Williams (Ellington, Conn.) made 6-of-10 from the field for 14 points as the Bryant University men’s basketball team snapped a two-game losing skid with an 82-55 win over visiting Southern Connecticut here at the Chace Athletic Center Saturday afternoon.

Bryant, which never trailed, led 10-5 early and used a 15-0 run to jump out on top, 25-5 with 8:13 remaining. From there, the Bulldogs were never threatened. Southern Connecticut (1-4, 1-4 Northeast-10), came into the game shooting 39.1 percent from the floor on the season and it showed early in the first half as the Owls managed only two field goals in the first 11:47 before Mike Vukanovich drained a fade-away three-pointer with 7:45 remaining making the score, 25-8.

Vukanovich, with a season scoring average of 4.7 ppg, came off the bench to score 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting. But the Owls had no answer for Bryant on this afternoon as the Bulldogs used their quickness and size advantage for easy buckets underneath and scored 25 points off 25 Southern Connecticut turnovers.

The Bulldogs shot 57.1 percent from the floor in the game as John Williams made 7-of-12 and Nathaniel Sudlow (Bronx, N.Y.) was 7-for-10 for a career-high 18 points off the bench. Along with his 14 points, Mike Williams had seven rebounds and accounted for five of Bryant’s six blocks in the game.

Southern Connecticut shot 36.7 percent from the floor and were whistled for 28 fouls in the game. Mike McCurdy had six points and three assists for the Owls.

Mario Correia (Brockton, Mass.) had 10 points and three assists for the Bulldogs who made 9-of-15 three-point field goal attempts.

Bryant (2-2, 2-2 NE-10) will return to action on Sunday, December 12 when Stonehill College visits Smithfield, RI for a 3:30 p.m. game.
