SMITHFIELD, R.I -- Chris Kraus (Markham, Ontario) scored a game-high 18 points including 9-for-9 from the free throw line to lead visiting Stonehill College to a 71-65 win over Bryant University in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s basketball game Sunday at the Chace Athletic Center. With the win, Stonehill improves to 5-2 overall, 2-2 in the NE-10. Bryant, which got 16 points from Nathaniel Sudlow (Bronx, N.Y.) falls to 2-3 and 2-3 in conference.

Bryant led 5-0 early and stretched its lead to 18-13 following a long-range three from John Williams (Springfield, Mass.) with 13:08 left in the first half.

Stonehill would counter with a 12-2 run, keyed by a dunk from Marquis Taylor (Los Angeles, Calif.), over the next 5:07 to take a 25-22 as the Chieftains took a 38-32 lead into the locker room at the half.

In the second half, the Bulldogs trailed, 51-44 with 9:31 remaining, but put together one last rally, tying the game, 52-52 following a fast-break lay-up from Mario Correia (Brockton, Mass.). But Stonehill would stay composed down the stretch as Krause would sink six of his nine free throws in the final 52 seconds to secure the win.

Taylor finished with 12 points and five rebounds while Dezmond Morgan (Maplewood, N.J.) had nine points and ten rebounds. The Chieftains shot 45.1 percent from the floor and out-rebounded the Bulldogs 36-28.

John Williams had 14 points for Bryant while Correia had 12 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the floor. Bryant shot 46.3 percent from the floor in the game.

The Bulldogs will return to action next Saturday, December 18th when Bryant visits NJIT for a 2 p.m. game. The Bulldogs will play at Holy Family (Pa.) on Monday, Dec. 20 in a game that was added to the schedule following the cancellation of the Univ. of D.C. tournament.
