BULLDOGS LOOK FOR BACK-TO-BACK WINS IN ROAD FINALE SATURDAY NIGHT AGAINST MOUNT ST. MARY'S (7 P.M.)
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bulldogs wrap up their 2009-10 road schedule Saturday night at 7 p.m. when they look for their second win in as many games in Emmitsburg, Md. This is the first and only meeting of the year between the Mountaineers and the Bulldogs, who have just three games remaining. Bryant enters the game fresh off its first victory of the season, a 53-51 down-to-the-wire win over Wagner College Thursday night on the road.
SCOUTING THE MOUNT
Mount St. Mary's enters Saturday's contest riding a
seven-game winning streak and will look to double-digit point
scorers Jeremy Goode (14.1 ppg), Kelly Beidler (10.5 ppg) and Jean
Cajou (10.5 ppg) to carry the Mount to its eighth-straight victory.
Beidler paces the team on the boards, pulling down 7.3 rebounds per
outing, while Goode has kicked out 115 assists on the year and made
67 thefts, both team highs. Beidler adds 36 blocks to his list of
team bests and Tayvon Jackson posts another 29 rejections on the
year for the Mountaineers, who shoot better than 42 percent from
the floor on the season.
THE SERIES
The Mount holds a 3-0 edge over the Bulldogs in the
all-time series, dating back to the 1982-83 season. The last time
the two teams met, Mount St. Mary's took a 68-44 victory at home on
Dec. 29, 2008. Nick Pontes (New Bedford, Mass.)
led the team with 12 points while sophomore Sam Leclerc
(Fayette, Maine) chipped in nine more in the loss as the
Bulldogs shot just 24.5 percent at Knott Arena. Another series
note: the teams have played all three matchups in the month of
December.
UP NEXT
Bryant rounds out 2009-10 action with a pair of home games
next week. The Bulldogs close out league play with the same
opponents against whom they opened NEC action this season,
welcoming St. Francis (NY) and Long Island to the Chace Athletic
Center for a pair of rematches. The Bulldogs will play the Terriers
on Thursday, Feb. 25 at 7:30 p.m. before hosting the Blackbirds on
Saturday, Feb. 27 for the 3:30 p.m. season finale.
