Grant posts season-high 29, but Bulldogs defeated at Mount St. Mary's, 96-80

EMMITSBURG, Md. – Sophomore Adam Grant (Franklin, Va.) tied his own Division I program record with nine three-pointers, but the Bryant University men's basketball team fell to Mount St. Mary's, 96-80, Thursday night at Knott Arena.

Grant tallied a season-high 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting and 9-of-15 from beyond the arc. Senior Bosko Kostur (Melbourne, Australia) and freshman Monty Urmilevicius (Kaunas, Lithuania) added 10 points each.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Grant and sophomore Tanner Johnson (Lexington, Ky.)  hit a trio of early threes, but a 7-0 Mount run gave the Mountaineers a 23-13 lead with 11:01 remaining in the first half.
  • Bryant cut it to seven at 25-18, but a 13-3 Mount St. Mary's run pushed the Mountaineer lead to 17 at 38-21 with 2:58 remaining in the first half. Mount would increase the lead to 45-25 at the half.
  • Grant led the Bulldogs with nine first-half points, while Johnson and sophomore Sabastian Townes (Chesapeake, Va.) added six each.
  • Mount St. Mary's opened the second half on a 13-4 run to take a 60-31 lead with 15:05 remaining.
  • Bryant trailed 70-39 before a 10-0 run cut into the deficit.
  • Urmilevicius scored 10 points in the final 11 minutes of the game to help the Bulldog bench spark a 41-26 advantage over the final 11:24 of the contest.

STATS

  • Grant tallied a season-high 29 points with nine three-pointers, tying his own Division I program record set at Sacred Heart Jan. 14, 2017.
  • Urmilevicius had all of his career-high 10 points in the second half and finished two rebounds shy of his first career double-double.
  • Kostur recorded 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting and added five rebounds.
  • Bryant shot 47 percent from the floor and 41.4 percent from three, while Mount St. Mary's was at 56.4 percent overall and 43.8 percent from beyond the arc.
  • Bryant held a 35-29 rebounding advantage.

GAME NOTES

  • Bryant drops to 6-11 all-time against Mount St. Mary's.
  • Grant was in double figures in scoring for the ninth time this season and 30th in his collegiate career. The sophomore was over 20 points for the fourth time this year and eighth in his career.
  • Kostur had his eighth game of 10 or more points this season and 39th of his Bulldog career, while Urmilevicius' 10-point performance was his first.
  • Bryant's 55 second-half points were the most by the Bulldogs in a half this season.
