Grasso signs Juan Cardenas to 2018 class

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head men's basketball coach Jared Grasso has announced the signing of Juan Cardenas (Medellin, Colombia) for the upcoming 2018-19 season.

Cardenas joins Bryant from Midland College in Texas, where the 6-7 forward played the 2016-17 season before redshirting a year ago. Cardenas averaged 14.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game for Midland in the 2016-17 season, while shooting 52.9 percent from the floor and 36.5 percent from beyond the arc. Cardenas was the leading scorer and rebounder for a Midland team that saw six players sign with Division I programs following their time in the junior college ranks.

"Juan is a skilled, high-energy player who will be able to play multiple positions for us," said Grasso. "As good of a player as he is, he's an even better person. We are very excited to welcome him to the Bryant community."

Cardenas is the second member of the 2018 class signed since Grasso's arrival, joining Joe Kasperzyk (New Haven, Conn.). The duo, along with Patrick Harding (Fairfield, Conn.), will join the Bulldogs this summer.

The Bryant men's basketball program will begin its 56th season and 11th in Division I in November – the first under new head coach Jared Grasso. The Bulldogs' 2018-19 schedule and ticket information will be announced at a later date.
