Bryant treks to West Coast for Sunday clash with Seattle

KENT, Wash. - The Bryant University men's basketball team travels to the West Coast for a Sunday night meeting with Seattle. The Redhawks are hosting the Bulldogs Sunday at the accesso ShoWare center, to the south of Seattle, in the first of two Seattle games at the venue this season.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Seattle enters Sunday at 1-1 after a 95-67 victory over Division III Puget Sound Thursday. The Redhawks opened the year with a 96-74 defeat to Stanford Tuesday.

Myles Carter leads the Redhawks with 14.5 points per game and is one of four Seattle players averaging double figures through two contests. The Seton Hall transfer also leads the team with 7.5 rebounds per game. Terrell Brown posted a team-high 16 points in the Stanford game.

THE SERIES
Bryant and Seattle meet for the first time Sunday. The contest also marks the Bulldogs' first game against a WAC member. 

Seattle is one of three first-time opponents this season for Bryant at the Division I level, joining Rhode Island and Saint Peter's.

LAST TIME OUT: RHODE ISLAND 97, BRYANT 63
Redshirt-senior Byron Hawkins (Fort Washington, Md.) scored a team-high 16 points in his Bulldog debut and freshman Joe Kasperzyk (New Haven, Conn.) added 10 in Bryant's season-opening loss to Rhode Island Tuesday in Kingston. The meeting was the first between the in-state foes since 1986, when Bryant was a Division II member.

HELLO, MY NAME IS...
Six Bulldogs made their Bryant debuts Tuesday, including three in the starting lineup: Juan Cardenas (Medellin, Colombia), Byron Hawkins and Joe Kasperzyk. Freshmen Kyle Cardaci (Holmdel, N.J.), Patrick Harding (Fairfield, Conn.) and Nino Hernandez (Gardner, Mass.) also made their first appearances as Bulldogs in the contest.

FRANCHISE MODE
Freshman Patrick Harding made an instant impact on the glass in his collegiate debut Tuesday, grabbing 10 rebounds in the game against Rhode Island. Harding's 10 boards tied the Bryant Division I mark for rebounds in a collegiate debut, matching the 10 secured by Alex Francis against Cleveland State in 2010. Francis would go on to set Bryant's Division I career record with 990 rebounds. 

BOARD MEETING
Bryant grabbed 42 rebounds in Tuesday's game at Rhode Island - the most in a non-conference game since the Bulldogs collected 44 against Navy in 2013. Bryant averaged 29.5 rebounds per game in non-conference play last season. 

FINAL EXAM
Both the Bulldogs and Redhawks have played in a national title game in their programs' histories. Bryant faced Virginia Union in the 2005 Division II National Chmpionship, while Seattle (then the Chieftains) played Kentucky in the 1958 Division I National Championship. Naismith Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor was the Most Outstanding Player of the 1958 Final Four. 

ARE YOU EXPERIENCED?
All seven Bulldog returners made at least seven starts a year ago as Bryant's 17 starting lineup combinations ranked in the top five in the nation. The Black and Gold returns 72.4 percent of its scoring from a year ago, including three double-digit scorers in juniors Adam Grant (Franklin, Va.), Ikenna Ndugba (Boston, Mass.) and SaBastian Townes (Chesapeake, Va.). 

SHOOTERS SHOOT
Bryant made 40.1 percent of its field goal attempts in 2017-18 from beyond the arc, which ranked third in the NEC behind Mount St. Mary's (48%) and St. Francis Brooklyn (41.5%). The Bulldogs return three players who attempted 100 or more three-pointers a year ago in juniors Adam Grant (190), Ikenna Ndugba (153) and Tanner Johnson (Lexington, Ky.) (127). 

MR. STEAL YOUR PASS
Junior Ikenna Ndugba needs one steal to become the fourth Bulldog at the Division I level to collect 100 for his career. Ndugba closed out his sophomore campaign with a Division I program-record eight thefts at Fairleigh Dickinson.
