Gross-Bullock's career-high 27 push Bryant past Dartmouth

HANOVER, N.H. – Sherif Gross-Bullock scored 17 of his career-high 27 points in the second half to lead the Bryant University men's basketball team to an 89-70 victory over Dartmouth on Friday night at Leede Arena.

With the victory, the Bulldogs are 2-0 for the first time in Division I program history and for the first time since 2005-06.

Gross-Bullock did a majority of his damage from the free throw line, finishing 13-of-18 from the stripe. Earl Timberlake added a career-highs in points and rebounds as he finished with a double-double of 19 and 12. Kvonn Cramer finished with 14 points, five rebounds and three blocks.

Bryant led by 16 points in the second half before Dartmouth stormed back to take a 68-66 lead with 6:20 to go. Cramer would hit a pair of free throws the next time down to tie the game and the Bulldogs would end the night on a 23-2 run. Five-straight points from Gross-Bullock broke a 68-68 tie and Miles Latimer drilled a three from in front of the Bryant bench to ingnite the Bulldogs.

  • Latimer was able to corral a missed free throw by the Bulldogs, extending a possession that ended with a Gross-Bullock floater that made it 70-68.

How it Happened

  • It was a frantic start on Friday night as both teams struggled to get things going offensively. Bryant picked up six team fouls in the first 3:30 of the game.
  • Dartmouth made the first move, getting back-to-back threes from Ryan Cornish to take an 8-4 lead.
  • The Bulldogs responded, tying the game on a Pride putback. Pride would then hit a pull up to give the Bulldogs a 10-8 lead.
  • Timberlake broke a 13-13 tie with an and-one at the under-12 timeout. Timberlake spun around his defender in the post and then finished through contact.
  • Bryant's lead sat at 26-23 when Pride grabbed an offensive rebound on a missed free throw and put it back, kick starting an 8-0 run that pushed the lead to 32-23 with 3:53 left.
  • The Bulldogs then rattled off the final seven points of the half to take a 41-28 lead to the locker room. Timberlake (4) and Edert (3) did all the damage.
  • Bryant forced 15 Dartmouth turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
  • The Big Green made things interesting with a second half push. A Timberlake free throw gave Bryant a 16-point lead, 58-42, with 14:02 left and the Big Green answered with an 18-5 run over the next 3:33 to make it a three-point game.
  • After Dartmouth hit a three to make it 63-60, Gross-Bullock answered with a three of his own to make it 66-60 with 9:50 to play.
  • The Big Green would eventually take a 68-66 lead on a Brandon Mitchell-Day three with 6:20 left.
  • Cramer canned two free throws on the next Bryant possession to tie the game and the Bulldogs turned the Big Green over to get the ball back. Latimer then grabbed a rebound as the Bulldogs missed the front end of a 1-and-1, setting up Gross-Bullock for a floater.
  • Bryant then stole the ball away at midcourt and Gross-Bullock finished on the other end, completing a three-point play.
  • The Bulldogs turned the Big Green over on a third-straight possession, setting up Latimer for a corner three that pushe the lead to eight.
  • Gross-Bullock would add seven more points from the line as the Bulldogs closed it out down the stretch.

  • Bryant finished the game 31-of-59 (52.5 percent) from the field, 5-of-15 (33.3 percent) from three and 22-of-33 (66.7 percent) from the line.
