Bulldogs fall to Cincinnati on Sunday

CINCINNATI – A cold-shooting afternoon hindered the Bryant University men's basketball team as the Bulldogs fell to Cincinnati, 97-71, on Sunday at Fifth Third Arena.

The Bulldogs shot just 30 percent (23-of-77) from the field and just 21 percent (8-of-39) from beyond the arc. Bryant has dropped back-to-back games after winning four straight.

Charles Pride led all scorers with 23 points, while Antwan Walker finished with a double-double of 11 points and 12 rebounds. Sherif Gross-Bullock chipped in 14 points, five assists and four rebounds. Tyler Brelsford added 10 to give the Bulldogs four in double figures.

  • A 4:24 scoreless stretch helped the Bearcats build a 36-13 lead in the opening half.

How it Happened

  • Pride scored the first points of the game on an offensive putback but the Bearcats jumped in front on back-to-back threes.
  • Leading 8-5 at the first media timeout, the Bearcats were able to expand the lead to 25-11 at the under-8 media.
  • Bryant struggled from the field, going 1-of-22 from the field and scoreless for a 4:24 stretch, allowing the Bearcats to take a 36-13 lead with 4:13 left in the half.
  • The Black and Gold came alive late, outscoring the Bearcats, 11-4, to close the half down just 16, 40-24. Walker was the key, converting a layup before drilling a three from the top. He capped the 9-0 run as he tipped home a miss at the rim.
  • Cincinnati was able to expand its lead to start the second half, scoring the first five points to take a 21-point lead.
  • The Bearcats would extend the lead 29 before Pride rattled off seven-straight for the Black and Gold. He finished inside, canned two free throws and then sank a three to make it 60-38 with 12:21 left.
  • Cincinnati would grow its lead to 30 before the Bulldogs posted an 11-0 run to pull within 19. Pride scored the first six of the run, Doug Edert drilled a three and Brelsford canned two free throws.
  • The hosts would close it out from there though as Bryant missed its final five field goals.

  • Bryant finished 23-of-77 (29.9 percent) from the field, 8-of-39 (20.5 percent) from three and 17-of-22 (77.3 percent) from the line.

  • Bryant and Cincinnati were meeting for the second time in school history. The Bearcats have won both meetings.

  • Pride finished in double-figures for the 62nd time in his 92-game career. He scored 20 points for the third time this season and the 18th time in his career.
  • Pride now has 1,253 points and 636 rebounds in his career.
  • Walker scored in double-figures for the seventh consecutive game and for the eighth time this season.
  • Walker posted his third double-double of the year and the eighth of his career.
  • Gross-Bullock has now scored in double figures in all nine games this season. It marks his 31st-career double-digit effort.
  • Brelsford's 10 points were a season-high against a Division I opponent.
