Bryant welcomes UMass Lowell to the Chace Wednesday night

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's basketball team returns to the Chace Athletic Center on Wednesday night to take on UMass Lowell in a key America East showdown. Tip is set for 7:02 p.m.

Bryant and UMass Lowell, along with UMBC, enter Wednesday in a three-way tie for third place in the league standings with just two weeks left in the regular season.

THE SERIES
Bryant and UMass Lowell are meeting for the second time this season and also just the second time as DI opponents. The River Hawks won the first meeting 98-79 on Jan. 22 in Lowell. Bryant holds a 19-18 lead in the overall series that dates back to the 1970s when they teams met regularly as DII rivals.

WELCOME TO THE AMERICA EAST
Bryant is 7-5 in America East play this season. The Bulldogs are 5-1 at home and 2-4 on the road in league play. Bryant has four games remaining in the league slate and is currently tied with UML and UMBC for third. Vermont sits in first at 9-2, while Binghamton is in second at 7-4. The top four teams host quarterfinal-round games on March 4. 

SGB GOES OFF
Sherif Gross-Bullock put together the best scoring performance by any player in the America East this season on Saturday at UMBC, posting a career-high 39 points. He was 13-of-22 from the field and 7-of-11 from three on his way to posting the third-highest scoring output in DI program history. SGB was named the America East Co-Player of the Week on Monday and leads the league with 17.6 ppg.  

FIVE MORE THINGS TO KNOW

  1. Bryant is 16-9 overall and 7-5 in league play following a 76-73 loss at UMBC on Saturday. It snapped Bryant's three-game winning streak.    
  2. Earl Timberlake ranks 9th in the America East in scoring and second in rebounding entering Wednesday. He is averaging 13.0 ppg and 11.5 rpg over his last four. Timberlake has posted three double-doubles in that span and leads the team with eight.
  3. Charles Pride currently ranks fourth in the league in scoring with 15.1 ppg. He's also approaching a career milestone, needing just 19 points to become the 11th player in program history to score 1,500 career points.    
  4. Antwan Walker currently ranks eighth in the league in scoring and fifth in the league in rebounding. The URI transfer is averaging career-highs in both ppg and rpg. 
  5. Bryant is 9-2 at home this season and 33-4 at home since the start of the 2020-21 season.
