Bryant welcomes UMass Lowell to the Chace on Saturday (4pm)

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's basketball team will face UMass Lowell on Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center. Tip is set for 4:00 p.m.

Saturday will feature two teams that are currently separated by 1.5 games in the standings. Bryant is 9-2, while UMass Lowell is 7-3. Tickets are available by clicking here.

THE SERIES
Bryant and UMass Lowell have split 36 all-time meetings. The two programs squared off as NE-10 rivals through the 2008 season and renewed that rivalry last year. UMass Lowell won both regular season meetings a year ago.            

NATIONAL RANKINGS
Bryant enters Saturday ranked third nationally with 6.4 blocks per game and 8th nationally in field goal percentage defense (39.4 percent). Individually, Daniel Rivera ranks 13th nationally in blocks per game, Earl Timberlake is 8th nationally in field goal percentage and Sherif Gross-Bullock is 21st in three-point field goals per game.

AROUND THE AMERICA EAST
Vermont enters Saturday leading the America East with a 10-1 record. Bryant sits in second at 9-2, while UMass Lowell is in third at 7-3. New Hampshire currently holds the No. 4 spot at 6-5. The final five spots in the standings are separated by a total of two games. UAlbany is 4-6, Maine is 3-7 and NJIT, Binghamton and UMBC are all 3-8.

  • There are currently four players averaging 20.0+ ppg in league play. The last time multiple players averaged over 20.0 ppg in a season was in 2016-17.    

GOOD GRIEF, REEF
Sherif Gross-Bullock posted his 11th 20-point game of the season last Thursday against New Hampshire, second-most in the America East. SGB also has a pair of 30+ point games, going for 41 and 35 against UMBC. He now has four games of 35+ points in his career, one shy of Peter Kiss' record of five.

Earl Timberlake has recorded at least 20 points in each of his last four games, averaging 20.8 ppg in the span. He is shooting 69 percent from the field over the span.

FIVE MORE THINGS TO KNOW

  1. SGB enters Saturday ranked second in the league in scoring with 19.1 ppg, while ranking second in America East scoring with 21.0 ppg. He has scored 20+ points in six of the 11 league games this season, including a game-high 28 last Thursday vs New Hampshire.  
  2. Timberlake is coming off his fourth-straight 20-point performance, posting 20 points and 7 rebounds vs Maine. He is averaging 18.8 ppg, 9.4 rpg and 3.8 apg over his last five. On the year, Timberlake is averaging 14.9 ppg, 9.0 rpg and 4.1 apg.

  4. Tyler Brelsford enjoyed a breakout performance at Binghamton, posting 14 points on 3-of-4 from three. He followed that up with 11 pts (3-6 3pFG) on Thursday vs Maine.  
  5. Bryant is 8-2 at home this season and 41-8 at home since the start of the 2020-21 season.
