THRESHER FINISHES THIRD OVERALL, LEADS BULLDOG TEAM TO TIE FOR SIXTH

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Led by a third-place individual finish from senior Jason Thresher (West Suffield, Conn.), the Bryant University golf team came in tied for sixth overall in last weekend's MacDonald Cup, hosted by Yale University Oct. 3-4.

The Bulldogs finished tied for sixth with Harvard University in the 14-team field.

Thresher started off the two-day tournament with his best round of the 2009-10 season, shooting a 68 in the Cup's first round. He followed it up with one under par and par performances, shooting a 69 for round two and a par-70 for round three, to finish the weekend at three under (207) and in third overall.

Fellow senior Scott Congdon (Foxboro, Mass.) wrapped up his weekend tied for 17th overall, shooting the Bulldogs' best round with a 67 on the first 18 holes to enter the second round in second place. But less strong rounds to close the tournament, a round-two 75 and round-three 73, pushed the senior to a 215 (+5) on the weekend.

A trio of juniors rounded out the Bulldog squad, as Eric Tankanow (Worcester, Mass.) finished tied for 24th with a three-round score of 216 (+6 - 72, 67, 77), while Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.) came in tied at 63rd and Matt Bernstein (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) finished the weekend 75th.

Yale took the top team and individual spot, winning their own tournament with a two-over 842. Tom McCarthy won the MacDonald Cup, shooting a 204 (-6), while teammate Ben Wescoe also finished one spot above Thresher with a 205 (-5).

The Bulldogs return to the course Oct. 11-13 when they travel to Storrs, Conn. to take part in the UConn Invitational.
