THRESHER WINS LONNIE BARTON MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL; BULLDOGS FINISH THIRD OVERALL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Senior Jason Thresher (West Suffield, Conn.) earned his first individual win of the spring season, closing out the two-round Lonnie Barton Memorial Invitational with a field-best 150 Tuesday afternoon in Savannah, Ga. The senior led the Bryant University golf team to a third-place team finish after the squad sat tied for first after one round of play.

Thresher's Day 1 score of 77 put him in fourth after one round, but the senior shot a 73 Tuesday, going just one over par for a 150 on the tournament to win out in the field of 47 individual golfers. Bryant as a team took third, the highest finish of the three Northeast Conference schools in the eight-team field, and finished just one stroke behind second-place finisher Laval and 10 behind top squad Longwood University.

Senior Mike Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) ended his opening spring tournament tied for eighth overall, shooting 77 on Day 2 for a total of 157. Rookie Spencer Sweitzer (Lunenburg, Mass.) recorded 80s in both rounds to finish knotted for 14th, while junior Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.) earned a tie for a 23rd-place finish. Greg Najarian (Rumford, R.I.) improved his second-round score by an impressive nine strokes to finish in 45th place.

The Bulldogs return to action at the Geico Intercollegiate Tournament on March 11-13, 2010.
