BULLDOGS SIT IN SEVENTH AFTER DAY ONE OF NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Mike Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) sits tied for 14th overall and leads the Bryant University golf team to a seventh-place finish after the first round of play at the Division I New England Golf Championships, to conclude Sunday at Triggs Memorial Golf Club in Providence, R.I.

Bryant is currently ranked seventh of the tournament’s 12 teams with a Day One score of 311, while Pyne’s 76 puts him at the top of the Bulldogs’ five golfers, with junior Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.) just one stroke behind to knot him for 18th after the first of two weekend rounds.

Senior Jason Thresher (West Suffield, Conn.) sits tied with rookie teammate Spencer Sweitzer (Lunenburg, Mass.) in 31st place with scores of 79, while sophomore Grant Certuse (Mansfield, Mass.) looks to improve his ranking in Sunday action and is 58th overall after a first-round 91.

As a team, the Bulldogs sit just four strokes back from sixth-place Boston College (307) and 18 behind current leader the University of Connecticut (293). UConn’s Matt Dubrowski leads the field of 60 individual golfers at three under par with a first-round score of 69.

Final round action begins Sunday at Triggs Golf Club. Bryant will tee off at 8:10 a.m.
