THRESHER, SWEITZER FINISH 1-2 AS BULLDOGS TAKE TITLE AT RIVER HAWK INVITATIONAL

Final Results

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Jason Thresher (West Suffield, Conn.) finished a single stroke ahead of junior teammate Spencer Sweitzer (Lunenburg, Mass.) as the pair took the top and second-place spots in the weekend River Hawk Invitational, guiding the Bryant University golf team to a first-place team finish in the two-day tournament.

Thresher’s three-over-par finish with a score of 145 earned him his third individual win of the 2009-10 season Sunday afternoon, as the senior shot a 72 in the first round and a 73 in the second to just edge out his own teammate in the 75-golfer field. Sweitzer shot rounds of 74 and 72 to finish the tournament in second place overall with a score of 146. It is the highest finish for the first-year golfer on his career.

The pair led the Bulldogs to a first-place team finish on the weekend, as the Black and Gold posted a 599 over two rounds to win out in the 15-team field. Bryant finished 13 strokes better than its closest competitor, American International College.

Joining Thresher and Sweitzer in the top-10 was junior Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.), whose 153 (76; 77) earned him a tie for 10th. Senior Mike Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) ended his tournament in a tie for 14th, recording a two-round score of 155, while Brent Besch (Wallingford, Conn.) made his 2010 debut with a 165 that knotted the sophomore at No. 42.

The Bulldogs continue Spring 2010 action at the Northeast Invitational hosted by URI April 23-25.
