BRYANT SENIOR JASON THRESHER TABBED PING DIVISION I ALL-REGION CHOICE BY GCAA

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After arguably his best season in a career matched by few others in the history of Bryant University golf, senior Jason Thresher (West Suffield, Conn.) capped off a long list of postseason honors Wednesday afternoon, being named a PING Division I All-Region selection by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA).

Thresher was one of 153 players across six regions to earn 2010 honors and one of 25 within the Northeast, alongside players from such schools as Penn State, UConn, Harvard, Yale and St. John’s.

But this is not the first accolade this postseason for Thresher, who picked up the 2010 Northeast Conference Golfer of the Year award, Bryant University’s first Player of the Year honor since joining Division I and the NEC. He also earned a spot on the all-conference first team after finishing the season with three individual overall victories and a fourth-place finish at the conference championship. Thresher averaged a score of 73.5 on the year, the lowest round average in the NEC.

The senior also won an unprecedented five Northeast Conference Golfer of the Week nods in 2009-10, and added a pair of third-place finishes and eight top-10 performances to his trio of individual wins. Behind the play of Thresher, Bryant took a team victory at the River Hawk Invitational and finished in the top-5 in seven of its 10 team events.

Thresher was named a Division I All-New England selection after winning the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship back in October, marking his first individual win of the season after beating out 191 golfers from 40 different colleges on the two-day tournament. He finished in the top-25 in all 11 events throughout the 2009-10 season.

In his illustrious career, Thresher has totaled eight individual first-place victories, collecting 15 tournament finishes within the top-3, 19 within the top-5 and 27 career top-10 finishes.
