BRYANT ALUM SCOTT CONGDON QUALIFIES FOR U.S. AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP

HINGHAM, Mass. – A second-place finish at a qualifying event at the Boston Golf Course from Bryant University alum Scott Congdon ’09 will send the former Bulldog golfer to his first U.S. Amateur Championship on August 23-29.

Congdon finished strong after battling back from a tough Day One to score a 144 in the two-day qualifier held in Hingham, Mass. The Foxboro, Mass. native shot a disappointing three over par in first-round action and needed to turn things around quickly in order to keep his qualifying dreams alive.

Knowing that par would not be enough, the former Bulldog sank back-to-back birdies on the 14th and 15th holes to finish with a one-under 70 on the second round, allowing him to jump up the leaderboard.

Congdon’s strong performance placed him six strokes back of the leader and into second place, guaranteeing him a tee time at Chambers Bay Golf Course for the U.S. Amateur Championship.

The August Championship will be held at University Place, Wash., where Congdon will compete against more than 300 of the best amateur golfers from across the country.
