SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- After the second day of action at the 2009 Mulekicker Fall Classic Sunday, the Bryant University men's golf team held on to its Day One spot, finishing the two-day, two-round tournament in third place thanks to top-25 finishes from all five Bulldog golfers.

Junior Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.) led the Bulldogs on the weekend, ending the tournament tied for sixth overall with a Day One round of 70 and a Day Two round of 73. Overall, the junior finished just three strokes over par and six behind eventual winner Matt Krembel (Army-137).

Senior Scott Congdon (Foxboro, Mass.) and junior Alex Daley (Hudson, Mass.) also shot a 73 on Sunday's round, finishing tied for 16th and tied for 18th, respectively. Senior Jason Thresher (West Suffield, Conn.) fell to 22nd place after a second-round 79 (74 on Saturday) while Erik Tankanow (Worcester, Mass.) made up ground after a first-round 80, shooting 74 in Day Two for a 23rd-place finish.

As a team, the Bulldogs took third with rounds of 299 and 293 (592), trailing only Army (560) and the University of Hartford (570) in the 12-team field. Army's Krembel, James Raymond and Matt Philie took the first three individual spots, while Hawk golfers Nick MacDonald and Zack Ungvarsky tied for fourth. Hoffman split the tie for sixth with another Hartford golfer in Maki Kobayashi.

Niagara's Joe Tonnos made the shot of the tournament Sunday, despite finishing tied for 32nd, acing the par-3, 201-yard ninth hole for the tournament's only hole-in-one.

The Bulldogs return to the course in just over a week, when they compete in the Adam's Cup of Newport, hosted by URI in Newport, R.I. on Monday, Sept. 21 and Tuesday, Sept. 22.
