THRESHER LEADS BULLDOGS AFTER DAY 1 OF ADAMS CUP OF NEWPORT PLAY

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Bryant University senior Jason Thresher (West Suffield, Conn.) sits tied for 12th place after two rounds of Adams Cup play Monday, shooting a 146 in 36 holes to lead the Bulldogs in the two-day, three-round tournament.

Thresher shot for par (72) on the first 18 holes of the day, following it up with a 74 in round two, both good for Bryant's top two scores of the day. Classmate Scott Congdon (Foxboro, Mass.) shot 77s in both rounds Monday to end the day tied for 46th, while junior Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.), who led the Bulldogs in their last meet, currently sits tied for 64th (78; 80).

Junior Erik Tankanow (Worcester, Mass.) shot a 161 on the day (80; 81) to enter Day Two tied for 77th, while senior Mike Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) holds down the 84th spot with a two-round 164.

The Bulldogs enter the second day of competition at 14th (617-307; 310) in the 17-team field and look to up their stock in the final round. Play resumes Tuesday morning in Newport, R.I.
