BRYANT GOLF TEAM OPENS SEASON WITH SEVENTH PLACE FINISH AT CCSU INVITATIONAL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University golf team opened its 2010-11 season with a seventh place finish at the CCSU Blue Devils Fall Invitational Monday afternoon at the Wethersfield Country Club. After shooting a 302 in the first round of the tournament on Sunday, the Bulldogs shot a 309 in the final day of the contest to finish with a combined score of 611.

Host Central Connecticut shot an eight over par 576 to capture the two-day tournament that featured a nine-team field. Blue Devil Kevin Josephson won the invitational with a score of 141 (-1) followed closely by teammate Justin Hughes who came in even at 142.

The Bulldogs were led by junior Spencer Sweitzer (Luneburg, Mass.) who shot a 72 in the second round to finish tied for seventh place with an overall score of 148, six over par. Senior Michael Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) ended the tournament not too far behind Sweitzer, placing 12th among three other golfers after shooting a two-round 150.

On the afternoon, Alex Daley (Hudson, Mass.) came in tied for 27th with a score of 156 to finish just outside the top-25. Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.) and Greg Najarian (Rumford, R.I.) finished 33rd and 43rd, respectively, to round out the Bulldog squad.

The Bulldogs return to the course Sept. 20-21 when they travel to take part in the 17th annual Adams Cup of Newport/Cleveland Golf Classic at the Newport Country Club hosted by the University of Rhode Island.
