BRYANT GOLF FINISHES 16TH AT ADAMS CUP OF NEWPORT

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University golf team took 16th place after the final round of play at the Adam's Cup of Newport, finishing with a team total of 942 strokes in the two-day, three-round tournament held at the Newport National Golf Club.

The Bulldogs opened the contest on Monday, Sept. 20 with scores of 323 and 311 in the first and second rounds, respectively, and completed the steady improvement with a score of 308 in the final round on Tuesday, Sept. 21.

Junior Spencer Sweitzer (Lunenburg, Mass.) was the top finisher for the Bulldogs, tying for 37th place overall with a three-round total of 229 strokes. After starting out with a first round score of 81, Sweitzer closed out the contest in consistent fashion by shooting a 74 in each of the final two rounds.

Junior Grant Certuse (Mansfield, Mass.) shot a 79 in the final day of action to tie for 49th with a total of 233 strokes while senior Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.) shot a 79 in the final round of action, tying for 74th overall with a score of 241.

Mike Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) finished the day tied for 80th, while Alex Daley (Hudson, Mass.) came in at No. 85.

The University of Central Florida bested the 17-team field (88 golfers) to finish with a score of 868, just ahead of second-place West Florida. UCF's Greg Eason took home the individual title with 214 strokes.

Bryant returns to the course on Sept. 27-28 at the Hartford Hawks Invitational, hosted by the University of Hartford at Bulls Bridge Golf Club in South Kent, Conn.
