Bryant competes at Shelter Harbor Classic

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University golf team took part in the Classic at Shelter Harbor over the weekend in Westerly, R.I., placing 16th in the two-day tournament hosted by the University of Rhode Island.

Columbia took home the team honors with round scores of 299 and 289 to finish ahead of Harvard at 588 while James Pleat of Dartmouth captured the individual title with 143 strokes to finish one over par (+1).

After opening with a season-low score of 72 in the first round, junior Brent Besch (Wallingford, Conn.) shot a 79 on the final day of action to pace the Bulldogs and finish tied for 27th place at nine over (151).

Senior Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.) was the most consistent golfer for the Bulldogs, shooting a 79 on the second day after opening with an 81 to come in at 63rd in the 82-golfer field.   

Grant Certuse (Mansfield, Mass.), Mike Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.), and Alex Daley (Hudson, Mass.) rounded out the Bryant squad as the group finished for 69th, 76th and 78th with scores of 163, 166 and 168, respectively.

The Bulldogs complete the fall season on Oct. 18-19 when they take part in the 76th Annual NEIGA Championship at Captain Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
