Golfers take sixth at Lonnie Barton

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Brent Besch (Wallingford, Conn.) finished tied for 10th to lead the Bryant University men's golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Lonnie Barton Invitational in Savannah, Ga.

Besch shot a 78 on the first day and a 75 in the second round to finish the two-day tournament with a 153, nine strokes behind the medalist.

Mike Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) (T-23rd place, 159), Greg Narjarian (Rumford, R.I.) (t-28th place, 160), Grant Certuse (Mansfield, Mass.) (T-32nd place, 161), Spencer Sweitzer (Lunenburg, Mass.) (T-37th place, 163), Alex Daley (Hudson, Mass.) (T-41st place, 164), Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.) ( T-48TH place, 167) rounded out Bryant's seven competitors.

High Point won the event with a score of 597, three strokes ahead of Sacred Heart (600) while Robert Morris (619), Drexel (625) and Fairfield (627) rounded out the Top-5 teams in the nine-team field. The Bulldogs finished tied for sixth after shooting a 321 in the first round and a 311 in the second round.

Bryant returns to action on Friday at the Coca-Cola Intercollegiate in Savannah, Ga.
