SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Brent Besch (Wallingford, Conn.) led the way with a Day 2 score of 78 to finish tied for 35th overall as the Bryant University golf team finished 11th in the 13-team field after the final round of the New England DI Championships at Newport National Country Club Sunday.

Senior Michael Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) scored a 78 of his own, tying the lowest score from any Bulldog on the two-round competition, but would finish 53rd as the Black and Gold totaled a score of 639 on the weekend.

Senior Kyle Hoffman (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished three strokes back from Besch to take a tie for 47th among the 65 individual golfers, while Alex Daley (Hudson, Mass.) and Greg Najarian (Rumford, R.I.) both finished with a two-day score of 162 for 49th overall.

Central Connecticut won the Championships, overtaking Sacred Heart in Sunday action for the overall team win. But it was David Renski's two-under 142 that took the top spot among all individuals, one of two Pioneers to earn top-10 finishes and the bets of four with top-20 scores. Fordham would take third place, while the University of Rhode Island and UConn tied for fourth overall.

The Bulldogs return to the course Easter weekend, when they travel to nearby Portsmouth, R.I. for the URI Ram Invitational April 21-23.
