Sweitzer, Pyne lead Bulldogs after Day 1

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Michael Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) and junior Spencer Sweitzer (Lunenburg, Mass.) finished Round One of the URI Spring Invitational in a tie for 10th place overall, pacing a Bryant University golf team that sits tied for third in the 11-team field after Friday action in Portsmouth, R.I.

The pair scored a three-over 74 while Greg Najarian (Rumford, R.I.) sits just a stroke behind his teammates in a tie for 15th overall. Senior Alex Daley (Hudson, Mass.) had a strong day on the green as well with a 79 and is knotted for 33rd entering Saturday's final round, while junior Brent Besch (Wallingford, Conn.) will look to make up ground after a Day One 82 (T-45th).

The Bulldogs' team score of 302 matches the number put up by host University of Rhode Island and Iona College, and the teams are just three strokes behind the Rams' B team. Temple University leads the pack, shooting a 295 with four golfers in the top 15 as individuals.

Army's Anthony Kim leads the field after playing for a two-under 69 and was the only golfer to finish under par on the day. The Bulldogs return to the links Saturday for the final day of the URI Spring Invitational.
