Rain washes out final day of URI Invite

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Senior Michael Pyne (Foxboro, Mass.) and junior Spencer Sweitzer (Lunenburg, Mass.) finished round one of the URI Spring Invitational in a tie for 10th place overall, and after a Saturday washout, the scores would count as final as the Bryant University golf team finished in a tie for third in the 11-team field.

Pyne and Sweitzer scored a three-over 74 in Friday action for while Greg Najarian (Rumford, R.I.) ended the day just a stroke behind his teammates in a tie for 15th overall. Senior Alex Daley (Hudson, Mass.) had a strong day on the green as well with a 79 for 33rd, while junior Brent Besch (Wallingford, Conn.)'s 82 placed him tied for 45th.

The Bulldogs' team score of 302 matched the number put up by host University of Rhode Island and Iona College, and the teams finish just three strokes behind the Rams' B team. Temple University led the pack after day one and wins the tournament after the washout, shooting a 295 with four golfers in the top 15 as individuals.

Army's Anthony Kim wins the field after playing for a two-under 69 on Friday and was the only golfer to finish under par. The Bulldogs return to the links for the Northeast Conference Championships April 29 through May 1.
