Bulldogs take 10th at 2012 Adams Cup

BULLDOGS OPEN 2012-13 SEASON AT ADAMS CUP OF NEWPORT, FINISH 10TH OVERALL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University golf team got the 2012-13 season started Monday and Tuesday at the 2012 Adams Cup of Newport, finishing 10th in the 12-team field after three rounds.

The Bulldogs finished with a three-round score of 930 after playing to their best lap of the tournament Tuesday with a 305. Senior Samuel Russell (Southborough, Mass.) led the squad with a two-day total of 229 to tie for 33rd overall. His Tuesday 74 marked the best single-round score for Bryant on the competition.

Sophomore Conor McGovern (Darien, Conn.) and rookie Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) finished the Adams Cup knotted at 49th with scores of 234, while junior Zach Garbacik (Hadley, Mass.) ended his season debut two strokes behind and tied for 54th (78-79-79=236). Sophomore Brendan Rowe (Medway, Mass.) carded three rounds of 79 to finish with a two-day score of 237, tied for 56th overall.

The University of Central Florida won the 2012 Adams Cup of Newport with a three-round score of 866, just a stroke ahead of Yale University. The Elis' Sam Bernstein won the individual title with a two-day 211, three strokes in front of teammate Joe Willis.

Bryant returns to the course Sept. 24-25 at the Hartford Hawks Invitational in South Kent, Conn.
