Bulldogs tie for third at Rhody Invitational

BUSCHMANN CLAIMS TOP-10 FINISH, BULLDOGS TAKE THIRD AT RHODY INVITATIONAL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- The Bryant University golf team shot a day-two 319 and moved up two places to tie for third overall at the 2013 Rhody Invitational with a two-round score of 636.

The Bulldogs were led by freshman Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.), who took his fourth top-10 finish of the season, carding a two-round 156 after shooting an 82 in Sunday action. The rookie entered the second round second on the individual leaderboard but would finish a team-best seventh on the weekend tournament.

Just three strokes behind him, classmate Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) and junior Zach Garbacik (South Hadley, Mass.) tied for 13th overall (159), both scoring rounds of 81 and 78. Senior Samuel Russell (Southborough, Mass.) took 25th overall with a two-day 162, while sophomore Brendan Rowe (Medway, Mass.) claimed a tie for 44th after a second-round 88 (169).

As a team, the Black and Gold tied Northeast Conference counterpart Sacred Heart with a 68-over 636, just seven strokes behind second-place finisher Delaware (629) and 14 behind host and team champion URI (622). Fordham (637) took fifth, followed by Canisius (642), La Salle (643), AIC (653), Holy Cross (656) and Providence College (679). The Rams also boasted the overall individual winner in Branden Chichorka, who finished the weekend with a six-over 148.

The Bulldogs are back on the greens this weekend at the New England Division I Championships, hosted at Newport National Country Club in Middletown, R.I., April 13 and 14.
