Walp named NEC Player of the Week

THIRD-PLACE FINISH AT NEW ENGLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS EARNS WALP NEC WEEKLY HONOR

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After an impressive third-place finish at the New England DI Championships in Middletown, R.I., freshman Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) of the Bryant University golf team was named Northeast Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week, announced Wednesday.

Walp earned the first top-3 finish of his collegiate career at the 2013 New England Division I Championships, leading the Bulldogs to a fourth-place team finish. The freshman entered second-round play tied for fifth in the individual standings after a first-round 74, and improved his score by a stroke to close out tournament action with a day-two 73, carding a three-over 147 to move up two spots and finish in a tie for third overall.

Walp and the Bulldogs will continue play on Sunday, April 28 at the Prisco Boulet Shootout in Rumford, R.I.
