Buschmann, Walp tied for lead at CCSU Invite

BULLDOGS ATOP TEAM LEADERBOARD AFTER ROUND ONE ACTION AT BLUE DEVILS FALL INVITATIONAL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Sophomores Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) and Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) lead the field of 60 golfers after shooting a two-under 68 in the first round of the 2013 Blue Devils Fall Invitational and have the Bryant University golf team in first place entering final-round action Monday.

Senior Zach Garbacik (South Hadley, Mass.) also sits among the top five golfers after day one, tied for fourth overall with Sacred Heart's Peter Ballo and Saint Francis U's Kevin Fawcett on 71 (+1) shooting. Sophomore Rocco Spizuoco (Portland, Maine) ranks tied for 30th in the individual competition (77) while rookie Mckinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) makes his collegiate debut in the fall's first tournament, carding a nine-over 79 Sunday. Buschmann and Walp were the only golfers to finish the lap under par.

The performances have given the Bulldogs an 11-stroke lead entering final-round play Monday, as the Black and Gold sit atop the team leaderboard with a 284 (+4). St. Peters University, Laval University and NEC rival Sacred Heart University all enter round two tied for second (295), with Hofstra (299) rounding out the top five.
