Walp paces Bulldogs at Adams Cup

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) carded a three-round score of 220 (+4) to finish tied for eighth and help the Bryant University golf team to a sixth-place finish at the Adams Cup this past weekend in Newport, R.I.

The Bulldogs posted a team score of 914, finishing sixth out of 16 schools at the tournament. Central Florida captured the team title with a three-round score of 856.

Walp posted a 73 (+1) in the opening round, shot even-par on day two and finished his tournament with a 75 (+3). Classmate Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) matched Walp with a 72 on his second round but shot an 80 on the final round to finish tied for 22nd with a score of 227 (+11). Sam Russell (Southborough, Mass.) also finished in the top-50, posting a three-round score of 235 (+19) to earn tie for 44th.

The Bulldogs will compete in the Hartford Hawk Invitational next Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 23-24, in South Kent, Conn.
