Walp named NEC Player of the Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - After his first ever first-place finish at the Lonnie Barton Invitational, sophomore Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) of the Bryant University golf team was named Northeast Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week.

Walp earned the first individual win of his collegiate career after defeating Santiago Mejia (Robert Morris) in a sudden death playoff hole at the Lonnie Barton Invitational.  After shooting a 73 on Day 1 and a 71 on Day 2, Walp found himself tied at even-par (144) with Mejia and walked to the par-4 18th hole to decide a winner.  Walp was able to sink a two-putt from 35 feet out while also guiding the Bulldogs to a third place team finish.

Walp and the Bulldogs will continue play on Saturday, April 5th at the Rhody Invitational in Portsmouth, R.I.
