Bulldogs sit in fifth place after Day 1 of the New England DI Championships

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's golf team finished Day 1 of the New England Division I Championships in fifth place with an overall team score 302 (+14). 

Freshman Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) continued to add to his impressive rookie campaign, carding a 74 behind three birdies and 12 pars.  Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) and Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) also had strong days for the Black and Gold, both finishing tied for 17th with scores of 75 (+3).  Walp had the most pars of any golfer on the day with 14 and Buschmann had three birdies.

Hartford holds sole possession of first place with a Day 1 score of 287 (-1) and Sacred Heart follows closely with a score of 289 (+1).  UCONN, URI, and Bryant close out the top-5 with scores of 292, 294, and 302, respectively.

The Bulldogs resume play tomorrow for the second and final round of the tournament with the first Bulldog teeing off a 10:45 a.m.
