Walp paces Bryant to fifth-place finish

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sophomore Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) added to his spectacular season with a top-5 finish at the New England Division I Championships, carding a Day 2 score of 71 for an overall score of 146 (+2).

Walp finished the tournament with a total of six birdies and 24 pars and bounced back nicely on Day 2 after finishing tied for 17th place on Day 1.  Classmate Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) also had a strong tournament, finishing tied for 13th place with a two-day score of 149 (+5).  Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.), Sam Russell (Southborough, Mass.), and McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) rounded out the Bulldog lineup, carding overall scores of 153, 155, and 156, respectively. 
 
The University of Hartford ran away with the team title behind a 571 two-day score, good for five strokes under par on the tournament.  The next closest team was UCONN, who was 10 strokes behind the Hawks with a two-day score of 581. Rounding out the top-5 was Sacred Heart, URI, and Bryant with final team scores of 590, 596, and 600, respectively.  Individually, Pete Ballo of Sacred Heart won the tournament shooting nine under par with an overall score of 135.
 
The Bulldogs return to the course on Sunday, April 27th for the Prisco Boulet Shootout at the Wannamoisett Country Club in Rumford, R.I.
