Bulldogs finish 10th at MacDonald Cup

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University golf team improved its round two score by 12 strokes to card a 294 on Sunday and move up two places, finishing 10th at the MacDonald Cup behind a top-20 performance from sophomore John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.).

Roberts shot a 74 (+4) on Sunday to add to his first-round 72, finishing tied for 20th in the 72-golfer field with a two-day 146 (+6). Junior Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) improved his second-round score by six strokes to move up into a tie for 36th overall (78-72=150), while classmate Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) also carded a Sunday 72 to finish in a knot for 43rd (79-72=151).

Junior Nicholas Marotta (Orange, N.Y.) finished the tournament with a final-round 76 for a 13-over 153 (T-49th), while sophomore McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) shot a pair of 79s on the weekend to finish tied for 62nd (79-79=158).

Host Yale won the MacDonald Cup by a single stroke, carding a 569 and topping second-place Harvard. Kennesaw State finished with a two-round 575, while Princeton (581) and Dartmouth (585) rounded out the top five. Princeton boasted the individual winner, Eric Mitchell, who shot a Sunday 68 to finish two under par on the weekend (70-68=138).

The Bulldogs will continue with fall action Oct. 13-14, traveling to Ellington, Conn., to participate in the Connecticut Cup.
