Bulldogs sixth after first round at NEIGAs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Led by top-20 rounds from junior Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) and sophomore John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.), the Bryant University golf team sits in sixth among all Division I teams at the 2014 NEIGA Championship after the first round of action.

Buschmann's five-over par 77 tied him for 11th following first-round action Sunday, with Roberts finishing just one stroke behind and tied for 14th. Sophomore McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) and junior Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) each carded an 80 in the opening round to sit tied for 21st, while Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) will look to improve upon his first-round 88 during Monday's play.

As a team, the Bulldogs carded a 315 in the opening round, 15 strokes back on Division I leader Fairfield University. URI sits second after a Sunday 306, with UMass Lowell taking the third spot with a 308. Central Connecticut (309) and Holy Cross (312) round out the top five, while Providence College (318) trails the Black and Gold in seventh.

The 80th Annual NEIGA Championship continues from Brewster, Mass., Monday.
