Brown, Giles ink NLIs, set to join Bryant Golf for 2015-16 season

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University head coach Charlie Blanchard is pleased to announce the signing of Ryan Brown (Bedford, N.H.) and Cameron Giles (Acton, Mass.) to the Bulldog golf program for the 2015-16 season.

The pair of newcomers, both dual-sport athletes throughout high school, add new depth and talent to a Bryant roster that won a Northeast Conference title in 2014 and earned a bid into the NCAA tournament. Both will look to make an immediate impact for the Bulldogs next fall.

"We expect Ryan and Cameron to be the cornerstone of Bryant golf over the next four years," said Blanchard. "Having two players of this caliber enter our program raises the level of competition on our roster as we look to continue to excel in the NEC and in the Northeast region. Ryan and Cameron fit well into the culture of our program and will help to raise our profile not just on the course, but in the classroom as well."


Introducing the Bryant University golf newcomers:

Ryan Brown  l  6-4  l  200  l  Bedford, N.H. / Bedford
A four-year varsity letterwinner for Bedford High School, Brown led the Bulldogs to a New Hampshire Division I state championship in 2014 and 2012 … Led team to a runner-up finish for the 2013 state crown … Senior captain … Named a 2014 NHIAA Division I First Team All-State honoree … Selected to the New Hampshire Junior Amateur Invitational Team in 2014 … Was a medalist for the state of New Hampshire at the 2014 New England Junior Amateur Championship … Earned a 22-1 record in 9-hole matches as a senior … Has also earned four varsity letters in basketball, where he was named captain as a senior this season … Father, Bob Brown, is on Bryant University's Board of Trustees and played basketball at Bryant from 1982-86, serving as captain as a senior.

"We are very excited that Ryan is going to be a Bulldog next year," said Blanchard. "He is an excellent player with great hands who can hit the ball a long way. Ryan really stepped up his game with a strong senior season, and we will be looking for him to continue that progress and have an immediate impact on our roster this fall."

A four-year varsity letterwinner at Acton Boxboro Regional High School, Giles is currently completing a postgraduate year at the Pomfret School in Pomfret, Conn., where he continues his golf career … Three-time Dual County League Division I All-Star … Led Acton Boxboro to consecutive league championships in 2011 and 2012 … Team MVP at Acton Boxboro in 2012 and 2013 … Senior captain … Graduated from Acton Boxboro in 2014 as the all-time leader in points in Colonials history … Set a new single-match scoring record as a junior (25 points) and tied that mark as a senior … Finished third at the DCL Sectional Qualifiers … Medalist Champion at the 2013 Dual County League All-Star Invitational … 2013 Lowell Sun All-Star … Represented Team Massachusetts in the 2013 New England Junior Amateur Invitational … Also earned two varsity letters in hockey at Acton Boxboro and another at Pomfret School … Honor roll student as a senior at Acton Boxboro … High honor roll student at Pomfret School … Father, Michael Giles, played rugby at Boston University and is a 21-year member of the PGA … Uncle, Thomas Giles, played golf at URI.

"Another multi-sport athlete, Cameron has a very solid golf game and is extremely consistent," said Blanchard. "After a great career at Acton Boxboro, Cameron has excelled at the Pomfret School, and we expect big things from him over the next four years."
