Walp, Buschmann claim All-NEC selections following stellar 2014-15 season

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After finishing second at the 2015 Northeast Conference Championship, the Bryant University golf team saw two of its own named All-NEC selections, as announced by league officials Tuesday.

Juniors Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) and Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) were tabbed to the all-conference first and second teams, respectively, after stellar seasons that saw them both finish inside the individual top-10 at the NEC Championship. Besides league champ Robert Morris, the Bulldogs were the only team to garner more than one all-conference nod.

Walp earned his second-consecutive All-NEC First Team honor for the Bulldogs following his ninth-place finish at the NEC Championship. Walp claimed four top-10 finishes on the 2014-15 season, including a pair of top-5 placings to post a 75.5 stroke average per round on his junior campaign. He claimed medalist honors at the Lonnie Barton Invitational for the second year in a row, winning with a score of 150 (78, 72). Walp had the shot of the NEC Championship, sinking a 186-yard hole-in-one on the seventh hole on the opening day of competition.

A two-time All-NEC First Teamer and former NEC Rookie of the Year, Buschmann claimed a spot on the all-conference second team after a solid junior campaign for the Black and Gold. Buschmann posted a team-leading 75.3 average per round and registered five top-10 and two top-3 finishes on the season. Buschmann started the year off strong at the Rhody Fall Invitational, carding a three-round 220 (74, 72, 74) to finish second, his best showing of the 2014-15 campaign. The NEC Player of the Week on March 25, he finished 10th at the NEC Championship May 1-3.

The Bulldogs delivered another stellar campaign in 2014-15, earning a trio of second-place team finishes, while taking home top-5 finishes in five of their 10 tournaments.
