Walp shares medalist honors as Bulldogs finish second at Ryan Lee Memorial Tournament
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University golf team opened up fall action Saturday and Sunday at the Ryan Lee Memorial Tournament, finishing second overall in the 12-team field.
Senior Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) finished the two-round tournament at three under par to tie for the individual title (69-72=141), leading a trio of top-10 finishers for the Black and Gold.
Junior Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) and senior Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) both shot even par (144) to finish in a seven-way tie for ninth, while junior McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) recorded a two-over 146 to finish knotted for 19th overall.
Rookie Ryan Brown (Bedford, N.H.) made his collegiate debut, tying for 42nd with a two-round 153 (81-72).
As a unit, the Bulldogs finished one under par on the weekend (287-288=575) after leading the field following Saturday's opening round. Bryant finished just a single stroke behind eventual team champion URI (574) and three ahead of third-place Saint Francis U (578). Central Connecticut and Fordham tied for fourth in the team standings.
The Bulldogs return to action Sept. 21-22 at the Hartford Hawk Invitational.
