Bulldogs in fifth behind top-10 effort from Buschmann after Day 1 of Hartford Hawk Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – After the opening two rounds of the Hartford Hawk Invitational, the Bryant University golf team sits in fifth place behind a top-10 effort from senior Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.).

Buschmann's two-round 138 (70-68) places the senior sixth entering the final day of tournament action. His score led the Bulldogs in both loops and his round-two 68 was one of the top totals of the day.

Junior Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) sits tied for 12th in the individual standings after a 70 and 73 (143). Classmate McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) carded a two-round 149 (78-71) to tie for 39th overall, while senior Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) ranks tied for 53rd following a Monday 152 (73-79). Sophomore Gabriel Van Ness (Clinton, Conn.) improved on his round-one 88 with a 75 in the afternoon 18, finishing the day with a 163 (T-100).

As a team, the Bulldogs sit fifth (578) in the 20-team field, two strokes behind fourth-place Towson and two ahead of Rutgers and Hartford. UConn leads the way with a two-round 565, followed by UCF (569) and Seton Hall (574). UCF's Donnie Trosper leads the individual standings with a 135, including carding an impressive 65 in the second round.

The Bulldogs wrap up Hartford Hawk Invitational action Tuesday.
