Buschmann wins individual title, Bulldogs finish fourth at Hartford Hawk Invitational

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Carding the best score of the third and final round of the Hartford Hawk Invitational, Bryant University golf senior Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) jumped five places to earn top medalist honors Tuesday in South Kent, Conn.

Buschmann's third-round 68 was tops on the day in the 108-golfer field and enough to vault the senior to his first individual victory of the 2015-16 season, finishing 10 strokes under par with a three-round 206. That score paced the Bulldogs, who jumped up a place in the team standings to finish fourth in the 20-squad tournament.

Junior Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) held steady in a tie for 12th for the Black and Gold after a third-round 74 (70-73-74=217), while classmate McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) jumped into a knot for 30th with a final score of 223 (78-71-74). Senior Joe Walp (Portland, Maine) finished tied for 45th (227), and sophomore Gabriel Van Ness (Clinton, Conn.) tied for 89th (241).

Bryant's final three-round score of 869 (291-287-291) brought the Bulldogs in two strokes behind Towson for fourth place. UConn held on for the team win, carding an 853, while UCF took second (866). Seton Hall fell to fifth to round out the top five.

The Bulldogs return to the greens Sept. 28-29, when they compete at the ECAC Fall Championships in Sherman, Conn.
