Bulldogs in fifth after day one of the Lonnie Barton Invitational in Daytona Beach, FL

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University golf team shot +21 for a 309 score on the first day of the Lonnie Barton Invitational, and sit fifth heading into the second and final round on Tuesday.

Juniors Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) and McKinley Slade (Saunderstown, R.I.) sit 13th and tied for 14th with opening rounds of +3 and +4, respectively. Freshman Ryan Brown (Bedford, N.H.), participating as an individual, shot an opening round 77 (+5) on the par 72 course and is tied for 18th. Fellow frosh Jake Ratti (Hanover, Mass.) is just one stroke behind Brown with a score of +6.

Rounding out the remaining three Bulldogs in the tournament are seniors Kyle Buschmann (East Haddam, Conn.) and Joe Walp (Portland, Maine), and sophomore Gabriel Van Ness (Clinton, Conn.). The two seniors sit tied for 27th with opening round scores of 79 (+7), while Van Ness was one shot behind on Monday (+8).

IPFW holds the lead with a combined score of -2 (70) after the first day, as it has the top three golfers in the tournament. Both Zach Schroeder and Devin Jenkins shot -2 and Jake Groninger finished Monday at even par. Tombs and Slade entered Tuesday's final round just five and six strokes behind the leaders, respectively.
